President Zelensky also signed a decree establishing a special, honorary distinction For Courage and Bravery award for combat units to include military units, formations of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, the Security Service, and the State Service, which showed extraordinary courage and effectiveness in battle. The 250cm by 12cm award is in the form of a double-sided green satin streamer with gold edging, intended for display on the unit's battle flag, At one end of the ribbon (on both sides) embroidered in gold letters is the Cyrillic inscription FOR COURAGE AND BRAVERY and the image of the Emblem (the Tryzub) of the Princely State of Volodymyr of Kyiv (the first Grand Prince of Kyiv). At the opposite end there are a floral-ornaments and an image of the Symbol of the President of Ukraine.

The first units to receive the new award were the following units of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: (1) the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo; (2) the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Knights Winter Campaign; (3) the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi; (4) the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Cossacks; (5) the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Kosh Ataman Ivan Sirko; (6) the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade Kholodnyi Yar; and (7) the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Transcarpathian Brigade.

During the March of Independence, Ukraine awarded the battle streamer FOR COURAGE AND BRAVERY to the commanders of 14 military units that participated and distinguished themselves in combat operations in Eastern Ukraine.
