Honorary Order of the Yellow Star

The Honorary Order of the Yellow Star is the highest state decoration of the Republic of Suriname. The Order was instituted in 1975 in conjunction with the independence of Suriname and replaced the Dutch Order of the Netherlands Lion. It is awarded to individuals (residents or foreigners) for their meritorious service to the Surinamese people or nation.

The Order is in the form of an eight-armed rayed star. The white enamel center features a five-pointed yellow star surrounded by a black enamel circle inscribed, JUSTITIA PIETAS FIDES, the country's motto. This is surrounded by a small white enamel circle with a gold border.

The Honorary Order of the Yellow Star is issued in five classes, plus two medals: Grand Cordon; Grand Officer; Commander; Officer; Knight and two Honorary Medals in gold and silver.
