The World's Greatest Female Sniper, Lyudmila Mykhailivana Pavlichenko

Lady Death, Lyudmila Mykhailivana Pavlichenko (1916-1974), was a Red Army sniper during WW II assigned to the 25th Rifle Division. She fought in the Odessa Region (187 kills) for only about 2 1/2 months. Evacuated to the Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula, she recorded an additional 122 kills in eight months. Her confirmed total of 309, included 36 enemy snipers, made her the most successful female sniper of all time. Her weapon of choice was a Moisin-Nagant Model 1891/30 Sniper Rifle fitted with a P.E. 4-power scope. Pavlichenko was wounded by a mortar blast in June 1942. Having attained the rank of Major, Pavlichenko never returned to combat but became a sniper instructor.
