Medal for the Defense of the Homeland at the Battle of Churubusco

The Medal for the Defense of the Homeland at the Battle of Churubusco is a gold or silver 30mm medal, edged on one side with a palm branch and on the other by a green enamel laurel branch, and surmounted by the Mexican Eagle (with snake) suspension. The white enamel obverse features two golden crossed swords tied with a black ribbon and encircled by the inscription, COMBATIO EN DEFENSA DE LA PATRIA. The reverse is inscribed, LA PATRIA AL MERITO EN 1847.

It was awarded to the Bravo, Independencia and San Patricio Battalions, consisting of approximately 700 men who faced more than 6,000 American soldiers in combat.
