Cross for Angostura

The Cross for Angostura, also known as the Battle of Buena Vista Medal, is a four-armed white enamel cross with pointed tips and inverted flags in the angles, with its lower arms united by palm and laurel branches. The obverse features a small red enamel square in the center within a white enamel square, both set diagonally, with a gilt eagle in the center.

The white enamel arms are inscribed, AL VA - LOR Y - SUFRI - MIENTO, and the white enamel diagonally set square is inscribed, DEL EXERCITO DEL NORTE, while the ribbon bar bears the inscription, ANGOSTURA 22 Y 23 DE FEBRERO DE 1847. The reverse is inscribed, VALOR ACREDITADO 1847. Variants exist, including the inscribed bar, BATALLA DE LA ANGOSTURA and the obverse inscription, AL EXERTO DEL NORTE CONGRESO NACIONAL. The reverse variant above is inscribed, AL MANDO DEL GENERAL SANTA ANA.
