Naval Reward Medal (1685)

The obverse of the Naval reward medal of 1685 features the bust of James II, hair long, descending in curls in front of the shoulders, which are draped in a mantle. The circular inscription reads, IACOBVS . II . DEI . GRA . ANG . SCOT . FRAN . ET . HIB . REX. The reverse depicts an antique trophy with naval action in the distance. The curved inscription, GENVS . ANTIQVVM (An Ancient Race) is above. Examples in gold and silver exist.
