![]() 1926 and 1931 Versions The single-class, 50mm X 48mm Order of the Red Banner is a military decoration of Mongolia, originally established as the Order for Military Merit of the People's Republic of Mongolia in 1926. The medal, in the form of a stylized star, has been awarded to citizens as well as foreigners and institutions for services to the state. It was renamed in 1945 as simply the Order of the Red Banner and in 1961 to the Order of the Red Banner for Military Valor. The design of the 22mm central medallion has been changed several times. In 1961 the ribbon bar of the Order was also changed in conjunction with the renaming of the Order.

![]() 1945 (Four Awards Indicated) and 1970 Versions As pointed out by Professor Ed Haynes, the slightly-concave reverses, although otherwise plain save for a serial number, differ in numerous ways from screw back to pin back and to the number of rivets used. Many collectors consider each of these reverses as a different sub-type. During November 1944, ribbons were introduced for all Mongolian awards including the Order of Combat Valor. These early Mongolian 12mm X 27mm ribbons are unique and were made of enameled metal. An image of the ribbon for the Order of Combat is worth a hundred words to try and describe it. ![]() Ribbons 1926-1961 and 1961-1992
