51 mm Bronze Commemorative Medal Awarded by the Ministry of the Interior Engraved by Hubert Ponscarme
The medal was most likely awarded for the French Medical Mission to Oporto, Portugal which confirmed the fact that the plague
there was the same as that raging in India. There were sixty-four confirmed cases and twenty-six deaths. The French mission
experimented on animals, and began to treat persons attacked by plague with serum from the Pasteur Institute.
