Brass Fortress of the Fatherland Decoration

Once a fairy senior decoration (holding precedence with the other Hero medals), the round 32mm red has a red enamel center, featuring a gold star along with a three-pointed gold flame in the center of the star and a crossed sword and pen below. The gold edge is inscribed above, THANH DONG TO QUOC and below there are two shocks of grain. It has been reported to have been awarded in three classes, but most examples, which have been seen are like the image below. The reverse is plain. The recipient was also awarded the appellation, Resister of the South.

It is possible that this decoration was merged with the Brass Fortress Order, which was established on September 23, 1963. It is still observed being worn by veterans, but it has been moved from display on the left to the right breast.

Some other early medals and badges of the NVA/VC struggle against America include:

 Ho Chi Minh Insignia
Brass Fortress of the Fatherland Decoration
