The Crimean War Nursing
Nursing, especially military nursing, was in its absolute infancy in Britain during the Crimean War (October 1853 to February 1856), which pitted the Russian Empire against the alliance of Britain, France, the Ottoman Empire and Sardinia. No formal military nursing units existed at the time. Military nursing would be provided by a combination of lay and religious organizations. The civilian nurses in time would morph into military and Red Cross nursing units.
