Order of the Union of Burma (Pyidaungsu Sithu Thinaaha)
The government of post-independence Burma created, via royal warrant, a new order, Pyidaungsu Sithu Thinaaha (Order of the Union of Burma now known as the Order of the Union of Myanmar). It is the country's highest decoration) replacing the Order of Burma on September 2, 1948. It is awarded in two divisions (military and civil as distinguished by the ribbon theme - green and white combinations for civilian awards and red and black combinations for the military awards). The first class of both diviisions adds a central yellow stripe to the respective ribbon. Each division consists of five classes, also distinguished by the ribbon combination for each class): (1) Agga Maha Thray Sithu - Grand Commander; (2) Sadoe Maha Thray Sithu - Grand Officer; (3) Maha Thray Sithu – Commander; (4) Thray Sithu - Officer and Sithu - Member. It was last awarded in 2022. Available records would indicate: (1) it is seldom awarded and (2) it was last awarded in 2022. On April 18, 2022, when junta-leader, Min Aung Hlaing, awarded himself the two titles, Sadoe Thiri Thudhamma and Sadoe Maha Thray Sithu. ![]() Agga Maha Thray Sithu - Grand Commander 1st Class ![]() Order of the Union of Myanmar Civilian Division Ribbon Combination 2nd through 5th Class
