Thuriya medal is the highest recognition for valor and gallantry "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to members of the Myanmar Armed Forces of any ranks in any of the services. This is the highest military award in Myanmar and it is equivalent to British Victoria Cross.

The stainless-steel decoration is in the form of a stylized sun of 16 rays. Suspended by an integral straight bar suspender. The name of the recipient and year of award is engraved on the reverse. There have only been six Aung San Thuriya medals awarded and only one of the recipients was a civilian.
