Military Medal of Colonel Diego Lamas 1898

Colonel Diego Eugenio Llamas, along with Aparicio Saravia, were leaders of the Revolution of 1897, which saw the Blancos overthrow the Colorado government of Juan Idiarte Borda.

The obverse shows Coronel Diego Lamas in full military uniform. The reverse is inscribed, COR. DIEGO LAMAS MODELO DEL CIVISMO Y GLORIA MILITAR 20 MAYO 1898 MONTEVIDEO.





Variation 1 (left) features the effigy of Col. Diego Lamas above oak and bay leaves. The top edge of the reverse is inscribed, CORL DIEGO LAMAS and in the center, MODELO DEL CIVISMO Y GLORIA MILIATR 20 MAY 1898 and at the bottom, MONTEVIDEO. Variation 2, (right) also features a slightly different the effigy of Diego Lamas framed in laurel leaves. The reverse is inscribed identical to that of Variation 1, CORL DIEGO LAMAS and in the center, MODELO DEL CIVISMO Y GLORIA MILIATR 20 MAY 1898 and at the bottom, MONTEVIDEO.
